Bulletin for November 14, 2019

Summary of November 7th Meeting

Thanks to your generosity we collected $22 in 'Happy Bucks' and 'Dollars for the Foundation' last week. All these contributions benefit the Rotary International Foundation.

Thank you, Larry Williams, for the program on the Rotary Foundation. This foundation has spent over $4 billion dollars on humanitarian projects and is considered one of the top foundations in the world.

We had a wonderful Zoom meeting last week with Heidi Fox, interim manager at St. Mary's Food Kitchen.  She gave us a virtual tour and shared how the charity has adapted to continue to serve meals to hungry people.  Because of club member feedback regarding in-person meetings, we have consulted with the Holiday Inn Hotel and together have decided to continue meeting via Zoom through the end of June. Thank you Rod for stepping up as the club's liaison to the hotel.   We do have a speaker for next week but need more after that.  The beauty of Zoom is that our speaker can be from anywhere in the world!  Please contact Becky with your suggestions for speakers.  See you at our next meeting this Thursday.

ROTARY MINUTE

November 11, 2019

In Rotary, every November is “Foundation Month.”   Don’t let the word ‘Foundation’ bother you.  It’s a good word and a better idea.  It means investing in future projects.

The Rotary Foundation (TRF) is publicized each November since that is the big push for Every Rotarian Every Year.  EREY is the annual opportunity for every Rotarian in the world to invest in TRF’s Annual Fund portion of the foundation.  Each is asked to contribute a minimum of $100, then that money is then invested for three years by the Foundation.  Interest earned by this money pays most of the administration costs of TRF.  Money raised three years ago, is then spent on current Rotary international projects and District Matching Grant projects.

In the JoCo Rotary Club, each member is asked to invest a minimum of $50 in EREY and the club will match that.  The second $50 comes from our weekly ‘Happy Bucks’ and ‘a Dollar for the Foundation.’   Many members give more than the minimum annually; however, the club always matches the first $50.

The Rotary Foundation is a highly respected fund in world circles due to the small percent of the money used for administrative costs.

Rotarians often use November as the donation month for both EREY and Polio Plus because all these funds are gathered and distributed by TRF.
