Below is a message that I recently received from a fellow Rotarian.

Good Morning!

I’m Casey from the KC Plaza Rotary Club.  I’m reaching out today to see what interest you and the Johnson County Rotary Club may have in participating in a significant local project.  What that significant local project has yet to be determined, and my hope is that you can help guide what that looks like.

I am contacting all club presidents in the KC Metro area on both sides of the state line.  We as Rotarians do significant international work, which spurred the question that with so many great clubs in the metro area, what impact could we achieve locally if we ALL put forth effort toward a united goal.  Kansas City has many needs, and I feel together we could tackle a large one.  My call to action to you is:

  1. Please speak to your board and your community service chairperson to see what interest your club may have in participating.
  2. Provide me the contact information of individuals who would like to be a part of the planning process.  Once a list from across the metro is compiled, a kickoff meeting will be established to brainstorm ideas.
  3. A “Kansas City Area Rotarians” Facebook group has been established to help share ideas.  Please encourage your members to join.

Thanks!  Have a great day!”

Our club meets on Thursdays for breakfast at 7:30 a.m.

Just a reminder that starting Jan. 3rd we will be meeting in the Wyandotte room at the Holiday Inn on 87th St

Thank-you Rod Fager for following the Oktoberfest 2018 summary:
In short, we netted $11,533.29 from Oktoberfest 18. The club typically keeps between 10%-20% to seed future foundation efforts so this year we elected to retain $1,533.29 leaving $10,000 to distribute to the 2 charitable recipients (Hot Lunch Inc. & Growing Futures) Since the primary sponsor of $2,500 was brought in specifically for Hot Lunch Inc. we felt that they should receive a proportional cash distribution recognizing that contribution. From that, we arrived at a 70/30 % split ($7000 to Hot Lunch Inc. with $3,000 to Growing futures). In addition to this, we elected to take the $1,500 we retained and use it to fund our matching grant for books earmarked for Growing Futures which would equal a total additional contribution to Growing futures of $3,000 of books. With this, the realized split becomes $7,000 to Hot Lunch Inc. and $6,000 to Growing futures representing a fair and balanced distribution to our two designated beneficiaries.

When we Johnson County Rotarians worked at brainstorming, many of you remember the Corporate Woods Fun Runs, the golf tournaments we hosted, the rose sales and deliveries, and the race car/funny cars exhibit at Ward Parkway with
two weeks ago, we produced around 76 ideas both funny and serious.  One of the covered subjects was best fund-raisers ever. Then we opened it up to new ideas.
thesilentIf all of you had been there we would have thought of more great ideas.  What can you add to the already listed events
Some new fund-raisers to think about were:  trivia nights, a food truck crawl, hold a Zoo animal, a car bash or a Kaufman Stadium event.
We have also been attendees at Tiny Tim, the Higher M-Pact luncheon, the Shrimp Fry and the Growing Futures Gala Luncheon and many other Rotary sponsored events.
Auction.  Do you remember the wine/cheese party/silent auction at the Iron Horse Golf Club or our night at Top Golf?  Of course, we’ve been hosting Oktoberfest for the past several years.
and ideas. Get them to Larry Williams before next week so we can include your brain work and ideas.
