President's Message
It was reassuring to hear Jeff Shore's presentation on the state of the financial markets at our October 7th meeting. The financial markets may be volatile right now, but our club is in a strong position to help solve tough problems in our community and the world. Please join us for our next hybrid meeting on October 21st. Brad Grabs from the Learning Club will be our guest presenter.
Have a great week,

Meals On Wheels

Due to the COVID-19 situation, Johnson County Meals on Wheels has switched to STAFF ONLY Monday Delivery for the unforeseeable future.  They will not schedule volunteers to deliver meals.  Meals on Wheels clients will receive a weekly Frozen Box of meals as well as a large box of Shelf-Stable meals.  They are also contacting clients weekly to check-in. I will notify everyone when the regular schedule will resume.

October 5, 2020

What a great program we had last week from Jonah Stein and his father!  A young entrepreneur had an idea to make a necklace that would hold a face-mask close when not in use.  Jonah and his family took his beaded design and began making them around the dining room table.

The idea and product became a hit in his family, friends and congregation, so he decided to go into business.  He would make the mask holders and sell them, the profits going to help the hungry.  The MASKerAIDs began selling with a goal of $1500 to go to the Jewish Food Service.  This service supplies good food to two food kitchens.   So far they have netted $7000 from their work.

What an ideal project for a Leawood Middle School student, and it fits right in with projects the JoCo Rotary Club are currently working on.  We have been supporting St Mary’s Food Kitchen for years and will soon be helping the Learning Clubs in inner-city KCK provide snacks to children in several sites.  Our current interest in helping young KCK entrepreneurs at the newly formed E-Ship Rising is encouraging and training teens to follow their business dreams.  Working with the Learning Clubs also fits the mold of Books for Kids projects we have supported for years.

Looks like Jonah would be a natural in Rotaract when he gets to high school.  He already has that Rotary drive and spirit!
