President's Message
We were honored to have the District Governor, Vern Henricks, present to our club on September 2nd. Vern emphasized the importance of making a difference locally, statewide and internationally. He inspired us through his work with Emmaus University of Haiti and the youth leadership program in Cap Haitian. Our club may be small, but we have a rich history of impactful service. For example, this club has partnered with the Salvation Army for the past 25 years to provide clothing and toys to under-served children during the holiday season. We will continue focusing on helping under-served children and youth develop resilience and achieve their potential through literacy and other enriching programs. This is an important area of focus as children and youth have been heavily impacted by the pandemic. Research has shown that students in general are behind in math and reading, with the biggest declines found among low-income children.  Thank you all for the difference that you have made in our community and the world.

Have a great week,

Becky

President

ROTARY MINUTE

Rotary Minute   August 12, 2021

Since the Rotary Year begins in July, we are still in the early stages of our Happy New Rotary Year!  It is a time to celebrate and plan.

We celebrate the great job that Pam Stockman did during those tough times of of the past 18 months.  Her elongated term as president made it even more difficult.  It takes special people to do that.  We can thank Pam for probably saving the Rotary Club of Johnson County.

Thanks also to Becky Johnston, our new President, for helping Pam through tough times with great programs and project leaderships.  Her behind-the-scenes work is another reason the club is still alive and well.

Being Rotary President is a time-consuming job.  It’s not just planning with a board, seeing  plans carried out, keeping meetings on an even keel and being motivator for dozens of people.  Every week, some request, suggestion or order comes to the club president from the District Governor, District 5710,  EREY,  the Rotary Foundation,  Rotary Zone, RI President or one of RI’s many Divisions.  The club president has to decide what, if anything, to do with each of those requests.

This is also the time when club members must step up with their ideas, support, volunteering  and bringing in new prospects.  The club president is only as strong as the membership helps them be in their Rotary year!

This member thinks that Pam was a great president.  Now it’s my turn, and all members to help Becky be a president who is proud to be leading the Rotary Club of Johnson County.   She’s counting on our ideas, thoughts, support and participation to make this year a year of growing and service!

Our next meeting is important for the future of Rotary Club of Johnson County.  It is important that your voice is heard!
