Summary of November 29th Meeting

Thanks to your generosity we collected $21 in 'Happy Bucks' and 'Dollars for the Foundation' last week. All these contributions benefit the Rotary International Foundation.

Lyle Curtis used Maslow's Hierarchy to illustrate that one moves from being a member of Rotary to a true Rotarian when they progress from satisfying their physiological and psychological needs to reaching the highest level of self-actualization in which one begins to grasp the meaning of life.

2018-2019

We had a wonderful time at our Christmas party!  Many thanks to John and Amy Ruo for so graciously hosting and making the delicious lasagna dinner. At the party, we had a great discussion regarding potential locations for our weekly breakfast meetings. There will be an important vote at this week's meeting so please read the summary of the discussion in the Announcement section below and plan to attend the meeting this Thursday.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

OKTOBERFEST

Thank you to everyone who helped make Oktoberfest a success! It was such a fun night. Now the number crunching begins to see how much money we raised for our charities. We will keep you posted on the results.

ROTARY MINUTE

December 4, 2018

After celebrating Rotary Foundation Month, we now have the opportunity to be involved in the work and spending of our portion of this year’s District Matching Grant. Being a Star Club, a club where every member participates in the Every Rotarian Every Year program, we received an extra $500 to spend.  If you remember, this year’s project is to purchase and distribute books to Growing Futures and other Head Start Programs in the KC metro.

The first step is to purchase the first batch of books for distribution before Christmas.  That opportunity comes this Saturday, December 8th at the Scholastic Books Warehouse of Lenexa Holiday Book Sale.  At this sale, we can purchase new books at sale prices and some bargain books at a 2-for-1 price.

Let Larry Williams know if you can be there Saturday and show up at 9:00 am at the Warehouse at 14710 W 105thSt. site. It is between Pflumm Rd and Lackman Rd in south Lenexa.

There will be other sales you can help with as Mark Smith and Jon Ruo set up other sale times at places like Half/Price Books and other bookstores. By the way, if you buy books on your own, save the receipts to get credit for your book purchases for Books for Kids.

It’s a good way to help area pre-school children and also spend some of the money our club members donated three years ago to The Rotary Foundation (TRF).
