Summary of June 27th Meeting
Thanks to your generosity we collected $40 in 'Happy Bucks' and 'Dollars for the Foundation' last week. All these contributions benefit the Rotary International Foundation.

Ryan Krzykowski, Director of Community for Coaches, spoke at our June 27th meeting. Community of Coaches is a not-for-profit organization that works with athletic coaches to help them become a positive influence in their athletes' lives. Through workshops, small group discussions and the support of mentors, coaches learn how sports can be used as a powerful tool to build life skills that help individuals in their relationships, in their academics, and in their work.

Pam

President

2019-2020

It's already mid July and while we are still basking in the heat of summer,  the weather will soon turn cooler and before we know it  October will be here.  That means preparations for Oktoberfest have already begun.   We have confirmed Blind Box Barbeque as the caterer for Oktoberfest.  We have a July 31st deadline to get a "celebrity" emcee and Grand Prize for the raffle. So, the time to get sponsorships and silent auction items is now!  When I return next week from watching Paw Patrol with my grandson, I will email the 2019 donation forms and sponsor letters to you. Remember that experiences are always popular for silent auction items.  Stay cool and have a great week!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Our club meets on Thursdays for breakfast at 7:30 a.m. at the Holiday Inn on 87th street.

A MESSAGE FROM JOE
Unlike Spring when our heads turn to the birds and bees, it’s now a new Rotary year and on our agenda should be directed to OCTOBERFEST.  I enjoyed my second tenure as your President, though most everything that was accomplished was from the labors of other Club members…  Let’s all support Pam as she carries the banner.

CAMP RISE
Rotary Club of Johnson County, I am reaching out today to appeal for your help with Camp Rise, an overnight summer camp for low-income youth in the Kansas City area. Camp Rise is held at the Rotary Youth Camp in Lee’s Summit, and our camp director, Katie McCalla, is a past president of Rotaract KC. The camp is completely free to all of our campers. We provide everything they need during camp, and we send most of these items home with them at the end of camp. With your help, we will be able to provide the campers with these items, along with the magic of camp. Camp Rise is still looking for sheets, sunscreen, bug spray and more. Each of these items is important to the success of the camp. Below is a link to our Amazon Wishlist, where members of the Rotary Club of Johnson County can directly donate items to our children. https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/4HV62PLT6WFO?ref_=wl_share Thank you for taking the time to read our story, and we hope that the members of the Rotary Club of Johnson County will be able to support Camp Rise. Best, Amanda Sarver Camp Rise Donations Coordinator

ROTARY MINUTE

July 8, 2019

We are now in a new Rotary year. You know it comes on July 1st.   It comes with a new President, Pam Stockman, a new board of directors, a new annual budget, a new District Governor and new emphasis at the local, district and Rotary International levels.

This is a good time to read the ROTARIAN to check out the new officers and goals for the Rotary world.  Checking out the District 5710 Newsletter is another step to getting caught up. But a must for all of us is keeping up-to-date weekly with our JoCo Rotary Newsletter that Becky Johnston does so very well.

The Rotary world is one of the most optimistic, productive, helpful places that this writer sees in all the local, national and world news. We do more helpful things than almost any government entity, including our own, to help people in need of good health care, education, peace, clean environment, and a better future.

Gee, I wish there were a country called “Rotary.”   Wouldn’t you like to live there?

By the way, you have perfect attendance at our club meetings so far this year.  Hope to see you on Thursday.
