Summary of May 31st Meeting
Thanks to your generosity we collected $24 in 'Happy Bucks' and 'Dollars for the Foundation' last week.  All these contributions benefit the Rotary International Foundation.
Dana Chatlin, Director of Development Marketing at The Farmer's House, was the guest speaker at our May 31st breakfast meeting. The Farmer's House is a non-profit organization that provides innovative community-based programs for youth and young adults with developmental disabilities. The programs include a working farm and two markets where the youth and young adults integrate with the community, gain early work experience and build social wellness and life-skills. After being dragged around town with out of town guests on two days of shopping, dining, and feeling like I’ve been dragged through a hole too small for me to fit through, I stumbled onto a relatively new thrift store in Independence.  They were having a super sale on children’s books and I bought six or so. I know this won’t be a part of our recent grant submitted by John Ruo, but it’s worthy of thinking that as we go through the entire year that we should keep an eye out for children’s books. AND GET PUMPED FOR OCTOBERFEST!

The Charitable Foundation of the Johnson County Rotary Club was organized in the mid-1990’s for the purpose of funding special projects that aid people.  Emergency situations (national or international) and long-range projects requiring matching grants often happen with little time to raise money. Having a charitable foundation that grows annually and is invested enables our club to fund these special projects.
Our own foundation is currently valued at approximately $30,000 in invested funds and has been used to fund special projects on several occasions in the past two years.  The foundation is governed by an elected board of directors made up of four past presidents, two members at large, the president-elect, president and past president of the club.
It is time for this year’s elections; the following slate has been nominated and needs to be voted in before the new Rotary year.  Election of the board will take place this Thursday, June 7 at the regular Rotary meeting.
This year’s nominees are past presidents- Rod Fager, Dave Gras, John Ruo and Larry Williams. At-large candidates are Mark Rawie and Bill Robinett and club officers are Joe Morris, Jeff Shore, and Pam Stockman.  Election of this board will be Thursday, June 7 at the Rotary meeting.
Current Charitable Foundation officers are Larry W – chairman, Dave G – vice chair, Bill R – secretary and Rod F – treasurer.
