Bulletin for February 15, 2018

Summary of February 8 Meeting

Happy Bucks: $26.00

Dave Houston is a fellow Rotarian from the Rotary Club of Western Johnson County. He's also an avid participant in the sport of Curling. At our breakfast meeting last week he explained everything about the sport and prepped us for the Curling event in Olympics. Sure enough, there was a very exciting Olympic match between the Americans and the Swiss the very next night. The Swiss achieved the extremely rare perfect score.  You can find out more about curling in KC at www.kccurling.com

Reading the ROTARIAN magazine makes one proud to be part of the 2 million adults and youth involved in humanitarian projects all over the world.  It also serves as a source of inspiration and ideas for doing more in our own communities and supporting District 5710 projects in the Americas. Here are just a couple of examples of how Rotarians are addressing local and global needs:

  • The suicides of local teenagers led the Rotarians of Yarmouth, N.S. Canada to work on mental health projects in the schools and sponsor leadership training camps for youth.

  • Argentina Rotarians from Rufino have organized and held vision screenings for more than 350 children in four schools in the past few years. This project has spread to other communities and has involved volunteer work from lens makers and a nearby ophthalmologist to help those with the most vision problems.

For years, clubs from District 5710 have been involved in clean water projects in many mountain villages in Guatemala.  Our own club has sent money for filters several times in the past 15 years.  Because of our contributions to Every Rotarian Every Year, we are helping Rotarians all around the world in life-changing Rotary International projects.
