Summary of February 20th Meeting

Thanks to your generosity, we collected $13 in 'Happy Bucks' and 'Dollars for the Foundation.' All these contributions benefit the Rotary International Foundation.

Sheyvette Dinkens, a Business teacher at Wyandotte High School, was our guest presenter at last week's Rotary breakfast. With the help of both public and private funders, Sheyvette and her students transformed a classroom into an innovative and collaborative working space (SUITE 1886) where innovators can mingle and generate ideas while changing the world.

Because of club member feedback regarding in-person meetings, we have consulted with the Holiday Inn Hotel and together have decided to continue meeting via Zoom through the end of June. Thank you Rod for stepping up as the club's liaison to the hotel.   We do have a speaker for this week but need more after that.  The beauty of Zoom is that our speaker can be from anywhere in the world!  Please contact Becky with your suggestions for speakers.  The Zoom meeting codes are unchanged.

ROTARY MINUTE

February 24, 2020

When Paul Harris organized his first group of men to meet weekly, he did not just approach businessmen. He wanted a cross-section of business and professional people who would represent various population groups in Chicago.  After many years, Rotarians who joined would declare that they represented a specific vocation or classification of jobs.

When we joined Rotary, most of us were assigned a classification (or a job title).  That brings people representing as many businesses or professions to our team. Past members have included a mayor, a city manager, a county administrator, doctors, police and dozens of other businesses and professions.

Rotary is looking for community leaders, businessmen/women, and professionals who want to serve their community and help those in need. As the Johnson County Rotary, we could have representatives of any county departments and service.  We should also have representatives of jobs found in our neighborhoods and business parks.

When looking for prospects, think of business people you use?  With whom do you like to work?   Who has an optimistic spirit?   Who lives a life of service?  We need people you like and trust.   That’s how we grow the club.

As we work on membership, let’s see if we can build this team.  Johnson County is a vital, growing and creative.    And so are we!
