Bulletin for January 3, 2019
Summary of December 20th Meeting
Thanks to your generosity we collected $29 in 'Happy Bucks' and 'Dollars for the Foundation' last week. All these contributions benefit the Rotary International Foundation. Visiting Rotarians: Larry Huff, Ray Makalous and Ron Tennissen.
As is our annual tradition, Christmas carols were the focus of our last meeting of 2018. Joe Morris made the arrangements again this year and we were delighted to have The Village Musicians perform traditional music of the season. The "sing along" was amazing...we had some outstanding voices in the room!! Thanks so much to the Village Musicians - you can find them on Facebook at

Well, all the Rotarians who attended last week’s meeting certainly were treated with a 100% better buffet than that to which we had become accustomed.  For anyone reading this weekly Newsletter, we have moved to the Holiday Inn at I 35 and 87th street.  If anyone knows a former Rotarian who has visited us routinely, please pass the info along.  Dave Boone comes to mind.  We now can be proud to bring visitors and prospective Rotarians to our new digs.  So, let’s get busy !!

Just a reminder that starting Jan. 3rd we will be meeting in the Wyandotte room at the Holiday Inn on 87th St.

Thank you to everyone who helped make Oktoberfest a success! It was such a fun night. Now the number crunching begins to see how much money we raised for our charities. We will keep you posted on the results.

Johnson County Rotary Club members stay busy all year long.  After finishing a highly successful Oktoberfest to help two of our favorite local charities, the club is deep into Christmas holiday season projects.
President Joe Morris delivered Christmas Angel gifts to some 25 children selected by the Salvation Army.  He and our club have sponsored this project for over 20 years and have helped hundreds of children have a more enjoyable Christmas.
In the same week of the Christmas Angel gifts, teams of Rotarians and spouses tackled the annual Scholastic Book Fairs Holiday sale where they purchased 375 new children’s books for area Head Start programs. This is a continuation of a twelve-year effort to provide books to KC area’s under-served children. This effort has placed 33,000 books in the hands of kids in need. Book buyers and helpers were Mark and Ann Smith, Pam Stockman, Carol Hockenberry, Shirley Rahe, Bill Robinett, Rod and Randy Fager, Joe and Rita Morris and Larry Williams.
Books continued to come in at the annual Holiday party at the Ruos with another 100 new and used books brought in.
Just a week earlier, club members attended the celebration of the St Mary’s Food Kitchen that we have supported for the past two years.
All of these accomplishments are examples of a small club doing big work.  The Christmas spirit is alive in our Rotary members. Giving to others is evidence of that.
