Happy New Rotary Year!  We are certainly in unusual times, but I am confident that we will continue to navigate through this new normal. Our speaker at this week's meeting will be Steve Nicely who is going to talk about natural burials and his association with the only cemetery in the area that allows them.  With COVID-19 still rearing its ugly head, we WILL NOT resume in-person meetings in July.  We have contacted the hotel and they are also concerned for our safety, so we will re-evaluate the situation mid-July.  In the meantime, we will continue to ZOOM each week.  Please help us get speakers for our meetings.  See you this Thursday!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Lenexa Rotary Club's Peace, Love & Friendship Rock Facebook Challenge

Lenexa Rotary would like to encourage everyone to have a little fun while walking the paths and stream ways in JOCO. Look for painted rocks, take pics and messenger it to this Facebook page and it will be added to these pics. We will call this the Lenexa Rotary PEACE, LOVE & FRIENDSHIP ROCK CHALLENGE. We will have weekly winners for the pic taker and if we can ID the artist, they will win too. Everyone can vote by "liking the rock of your choice. Gift Cards for carry out at one of our local eating establishments will be the prizes. Will end May 15th with a Grand Prize Winner. Who said that The Lenexa Art Fair is not taking place in some form?

Meals On Wheels

Due to the COVID-19 situation, Johnson County Meals on Wheels has switched to STAFF ONLY Monday Delivery for the unforeseeable future.  They will not schedule volunteers to deliver meals.  Meals on Wheels clients will receive a weekly Frozen Box of meals as well as a large box of Shelf-Stable meals.  They are also contacting clients weekly to check-in. I will notify everyone when the regular schedule will resume.

ROTARY MINUTE

June 23, 2020

Have you noticed that in the past three months the Rotary world has gotten smaller?  Recently we have been brought closer together since we can attend club meetings right in our own home.  I’ve even watched several District 5710 events in person from my own computer.  With the coming of the recent ROTARIAN, I see multiple opportunities to be watching, and even helping, Rotary projects that are happening on several continents.

Clubs are now able to bring in program leaders from far and wide and with subjects that we have not been able to have at meetings, except by short films, movies, or videos.  Speakers now have options to present on-line and not have to travel and miss work.

Board meetings and committee meetings can be held on Zoom without Rotarians leaving their homes.  It saves much time and a lot of gasoline.

But there are things I miss.  I miss talking face to face over coffee and breakfast. It’s harder kidding Rotarian friends from a distance than in person.  Also, how do we collect Happy Bucks, Scooter Bucks, and Crazy Fines on-line?

Maybe these new practices will make us more versatile and able to gain new members and tackle new problems.

The Rotary Club of Johnson County is alive and well.  Why not join us online at 8 am on Thursdays?
