Happy Holidays everyone!  We will soon say goodbye to 2020 (finally) and look forward to the promises of a New Year.  As I reflect back on our club, I am very proud of how we have adapted in response to COVID.  Our hybrid meetings and Zoom only meetings are going well.  Our district grant project for the Learning Club was very successful and, thanks to Joe Morris's leadership, we were Salvation Army Christmas "angels" to 29 children.  We welcomed Gabriel Rop to our club in the spring and will sadly miss departing members, Mark Smith, Dave Gras, and Ted Nelson.    I am grateful to each and every one of you for your dedication to Rotary.   I remain confident that our small but mighty club will continue to make a difference in our community.   As a reminder, our next meeting is a hybrid meeting on January 7th.   Stay safe everyone.  See you in 2021!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Meals On Wheels

Due to the COVID-19 situation, Johnson County Meals on Wheels has switched to STAFF ONLY Monday Delivery for the unforeseeable future.  They will not schedule volunteers to deliver meals.  Meals on Wheels clients will receive a weekly Frozen Box of meals as well as a large box of Shelf-Stable meals.  They are also contacting clients weekly to check-in. I will notify everyone when the regular schedule will resume.

ROTARY MINUTE

December 21, 2020

This December is a good way to end a bad year if you can call 2020 a bad year.  I can think of a dozen reasons.   But our Rotary Club is ending it with Thanksgiving in our hearts and an attitude of gratitude.

Some 26 kids were supplied Christmas Angel gifts thanks to Joe Morris and this very giving club.

We continue to support the Student Entrepreneur group in Wyandotte County, E Ship Rising.

Our project with the Learning Clubs of KCK was very helpful and had quite a bit of one-on-one activities with KC teens and Rotarians.  Just this week,  the  JoCo Charitable Foundation Board approved a $2500 gift to Thelma’s Kitchen Cafe at 31st and Troost which is a wonderful mission to help the hungry and preserve their dignities.

Ending this year knowing that we will all get the Covid Vaccine is another blessing. It will allow all of us to eat, fellowship, and work together again in close proximity.  It is also time to thank Pam, her officers, and our board for keeping us alive and kicking.

On this final Newsletter of 2020, we must also announce the candidates for election to our Board of Directors of the Rotary Club of Johnson County Charitable Foundation to be elected at our next meeting.  The candidates are:

4 Past Presidents -  Rod F,  Jeff S,  Joe M, Larry W    2 At large members,  Lyle C and Bill R

President   Pam S.   President-Elect  Becky J   Immediate Past Pres  (Pam in 6 months)
